Known internationally for the local rice wine named after it, Shaoxing is a large city near Hangzhou Bay between Hangzhou and Ningbo in East-Central China. Shaoxing is also famous as the birthplace of Lu Xun (鲁迅), the father of modern Chinese literature and an important social critic.
